Russian power grid will be maintained with IFS Applications

Johannesburg, 05 Feb 2004

FSK EES, the company that manages the Russian national power grid, has chosen IFS Applications for the maintenance, technical development and supervision of power lines and network objects in the high-voltage transmission infrastructure.

FSK EES manages the All-Russian unified electric power grid, which includes more than 140 substations, 43 700km of high-voltage power transmission lines, and process management systems. The grid transports more than 319 billion kWh of electric power, 36% of all electric energy generated in Russia.

Dmitry Molinsky, head of the Information Department in FSK EES, commented: "Our operations, the dispersed infrastructure of the grid, and the need to streamline network and corporate processes meant that we required advanced information technology. FSK EES had thoroughly analysed the market for enterprise asset management (EAM) solutions. In particular, we looked at successful implementations and users` experience of EAM systems in the national power grids of other countries. IFS Applications is a proven solution in several countries, including Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands."

The EAM system based on IFS Applications will also handle project management, document management and procurement. The implementation project is to be conducted by CFS, the IFS distributor in Russia, the CIS and the Baltic states, with the assistance of consultants from IFS.

IFS prioritises the energy and utilities industry and has 100 customers involved in power generation, transmission and distribution. These include the world`s largest hydropower plant, Three Gorges (PR China), nuclear power stations in Barseb"ack (Sweden), OKG (Sweden) and Qinshan (PR China), grid operators such as Svenska Kraftn"at (Sweden), Statnett (Norway), and TenneT (The Netherlands) as well as distributors such as Siemens Energy Services (New Zealand), Fortum (Sweden) and Hafslund Energi (Norway). Industry analysts such as Gartner, AMR Research and ARC rank the service and maintenance functionality in IFS Applications among the best in the market.
