In a significant coup, South African-based enterprise architecture consulting and training company, Knotion, was awarded a major contract by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) on 23 April 2013. The 15-month contract covers the development of full-scale enterprise architecture (EA) capability for the Board. The Rwanda Government is implementing EA for the first time as a key step towards achieving its vision to become the ICT hub for East Africa.

"Knotion has a strong team and I am confident we will achieve a great deal with them," commented Jean Baptiste Minani, Head of Software Support, Rwanda Development Board-ICT. "We put out a rigorous international tender and Knotion presented a good proposal with good methodology. EA is viewed as a potential enabler of government strategy, and we aim to replicate RDB's EA model in all Rwanda government departments in the future. Initially, this will involve the development of EA for the justice sector, local government sector and Finance Ministry."

Knotion is fully committed to Africa, with the conviction that ICT advancement is integral to supporting economic growth and development on the continent. The project started in the first week of May, and, in line with the company's philosophy that the smart way forward for any organisation is to adopt the current international best practice, Knotion is employing the TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Framework and the ArchiMate Modelling Notation under the auspices of the Open Group. Not new to Rwanda, Knotion delivered TOGAF certification and advanced EA training to the RDB in 2012.

Highly regarded for its customer-focused approach to EA consulting, Knotion presents best practices in an innovative manner that aims to provide rapid creation of real value for a customer's EA investment.

This strategy is building the company an impressive client portfolio, which in South Africa includes the South African Reserve Bank, Nedbank, Santam, the South African Social Security Agency, Murray & Roberts and Standard Bank, while sub-Saharan clients include Absa Namibia and Digital Jewels Nigeria.

"We are passionate about making a real difference in Africa and consider that our thought leadership in EA can assist in transforming the region's ICT landscape," says Knotion Director, Marius Snel. "It is especially exciting to be a contributor to a project that is fundamental to the Rwanda government's ICT vision. We have been impressed with the all-important commitment and involvement of the key
Rwandan stakeholders and believe this could be a showcase project for other African governments."
