South Africa will not receive the Apple iPad on its scheduled release date, 3 April.
Local consumers will not get their hands on it anytime soon, as Apple says SA will only receive the tablet later this year, with no specified date.
The iPad will be released in the US on 3 April. Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK will receive it in late April.
Apple says the “iPad will ship in additional countries later this year” and this includes SA.
Alan Hely, senior director of corporate communications, Apple Europe, says the company has no further information to share regarding Apple's release in SA at this point in time.
Jobs unveiled the iPad in late January.

The iPad is designed to be used for Web-surfing, gaming, e-book reading, listening to music, watching videos and reading e-mails, according to the company.
Apple says: “iPad is just 0.5 inches thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds - thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook - and delivers battery life of up to 10 hours.”
