Saab Grintek has given its empowered technology associate, Grinpal, a vote of confidence by transferring all its technology development, project execution and management of its remote prepayment metering, energy and load management and systems products to the company.
Grinpal Energy Management, a 50/50 joint venture between Saab Grintek and Palace Engineering Services, was established in 2001 to supply the local and international market with innovative energy management products such as automatic meter reading (AMR), prepayment and load management systems.
These products have been developed by Saab Grintek and manufactured under licence by Grinpal, but as of July this year, all development, project execution and management, including operational and maintenance aspects, were transferred to Grinpal.
"This is an exciting and empowering progress for Grinpal with whom we've worked closely since 2001," says Gert Gous, Grinpal's chief operations officer. "The transfer of all aspects of the development and installation of our products has transformed Grinpal into a single entity covering the whole spectrum of the business in this market segment. In addition, this move will open the marketing and sales scope of our products and technologies to the whole world, instead of only the Southern African region."
The technologies now embedded in Grinpal have been demonstrated successfully in SA in areas such as Alexandra, Mayibuye, Tsutsumane, Witbank, Thabazimbi, White River and Walvis Bay. The technologies developed are fully South African and compare favourably with those available internationally, raising the interest of several other countries with much larger markets.
"Grinpal's technologies are state of the art and are globally competitive," says Makhup Nyama, CEO Saab Grintek. "Grinpal plans to expand its market by deploying its products and services elsewhere in Africa and the rest of the world. We are confident that Grinpal's market share will increase substantially in the future."
