In its ongoing support of CIDA City Campus, Saab Grintek, South Africa's leading empowerment technology group, recently hosted a breakfast to motivate 10 students benefiting from the group's continued support.
Saab Grintek became involved in CIDA City Campus in 2005, when it sponsored 10 students to the tune of R52 000. Last year the sponsorship covered one year's tuition and an allowance.
Students who were supported were all studying towards their Bachelor of Business Administration degrees, specialising in information technology and general management. Students were selected on the basis of academic performance and financial need.
This year the criteria was the same, with Saab Grintek making R76 000 available to the students.
"The objective of our partnership with CIDA City Campus is firstly to provide financial support to students that would otherwise never be able to afford tertiary education," said Makhup Nyama, CEO, Saab Grintek.
"However our breakfast function reflects more than financial assistance, rather it is part of an ongoing development process."
Since forming the partnership with CIDA City Campus in 2005, Saab Grintek has only had praise for the way in which the institution combines high quality affordable tuition with real life application of skills.
Through its financial support, Saab Grintek has in some small measure answered CIDA City Campus' call to change lives.
Supported by some of South Africa's leading companies, CIDA City Campus aims to develop thinkers and leaders - leaders that will continue to add to the vibrancy of the local economy and abroad of South Africa
"The future of our country lies in education, through leveraging the finest knowledge and skills that exist in the nation and in the world," added Nyama.
Saab Grintek is a leading high-technology partnership between Kunene Bros Holdings (29.7%) and Saab AB (70.3%). The group specialises in telecommunications and selected niche opportunities within industrial and defence electronics.
