Saab Grintek teams up with Eltek Energy

Johannesburg, 15 Nov 2005

Saab Grintek once again joins forces with an international partner to bring a world first to the African continent. This time it is the exciting new range of fourth-generation DC power rectifiers designed for use in telecommunication networks.

Eltek Energy has introduced the world's first fourth-generation DC power rectifier with its FLATPACK 2 product range, now available in Africa through a distribution agreement with the prominent local technology firm, Saab Grintek. The latest generation brings another quantum step up in power density and reliability, while realising a step down in the price per watt ratio. The increase in power density allows ultra compact layouts. A lower component count, combined with enhanced topology using the latest switching devices, results in superior reliability.

According to Makhup Nyama, Saab Grintek CEO: "Saab Grintek has partnered with Eltek after a thorough evaluation of the best products on the market and their suitability for the African environment. In this task Saab Grintek could combine their long track record of working with most local telecom network operators and their extensive experience of supporting a large installed equipment base in diverse operating conditions within various network applications to compile the most stringent set of technical requirements. Eltek's significant global market share was also an important parameter since it brings economies of scale effects to reduce the costs per product sold and improve delivery scheduling derived from uninterrupted large production volumes."

Haakon G Froland, Eltek energy sales director, explained the benefits for Eltek: "Through this agreement Eltek can channel their world leading products to a geographical area previously unexplored by Eltek. Saab Grintek adds the local experience and a proven distribution footprint for a running start to an exciting new area with very active telecommunication growth. Through Saab Grintek, Eltek can become the instant trusted partner in Africa essential for success."

Both parties agreed that their decision to cooperate was made easy through their focus on similar markets, compatible reputations for technical excellence, supporting manufacturing capabilities and complementary geographical representation.

"The new product range will be introduced as an attractive new option while continuing full support for our existing product ranges thereby maintaining a single point of responsibility to our clients without disruption," says Martin Siepker, managing executive: Power Technologies division, Saab Grintek, the well established business unit responsible for all Saab Grintek operations in the DC power market.
