The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is not planning to appoint a technology officer to oversee its 2010 preparations.
This is according to SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago, who was commenting on an advertisement placed in weekend newspapers for a group head of IT systems.
The advert ran on the same day the SABC board was accused of planning to fire its CEO, Dali Mpofu, for, among other things, not employing a chief technology officer for 2010.
"We have no post like that," says Kganyago.
The allegations of tension within the SABC board were based on a leaked board memo where it was alleged Mpofu was defying the board and steering the SABC towards an operational, financial and governance crisis.
The allegation that Mpofu is to be fired has since been vehemently denied, with board chairman Kanyi Mkonza saying a public statement would be issued after the board had met to discuss the matter.
An advert at the weekend, however, invited applications for the position of group head of IT systems at the SABC, reporting directly to the CTO.
Kganyago explained yesterday that this was a dedicated IT position within the SABC's greater technology focus and did not relate to the 2010 World Cup directly.
According to him, all 2010 functions are located within the broadcaster's sport department and no technology advisor would be appointed by the organisation.
