Safaricom outsources customer care

Mobile phone operator Safaricom will be outsourcing its care services, showing its intention to up the market share war, reports Business Daily Africa.

Back-office providers are expected to be beneficiaries of new business opportunities that will emerge from this model, which will help Safaricom deal with its subscriber base.

The move comes two weeks after Michael Joseph, the company's CEO, announced plans to increase the number of customer care staff by 1 000.

Airport ads go digital

Fujitsu Services has won a 10-year contract to install and support e-advertising infrastructure at BAA airports, reports Vnunet.

Advertising company JCDecaux will be providing the service, called a media network, at all seven airports owned by BAA, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The technology will be provided and supported by Fujitsu, which has signed a 10-year outsourcing deal with JCDecaux.

Cognizant builds India software centre

Cognizant Technology Solutions plans to build a new software centre in India that will employ nearly 4 000 engineers, reports the International Herald Tribune.

Cognizant will spend 1.9 billion rupees setting up the centre near the eastern Indian city of Calcutta. Global outsourcing companies are expanding their centres in India as they aim to cut costs.

The centre will serve Cognizant's global clients across financial services, pharmaceuticals and retail sectors.
