Management at Sahara Computers, local supplier of information, communication and digital lifestyle technology, has confirmed that the company sponsored infrastructure to ensure reliable connectivity for an Internet Caf'e to be used by delegates at the 52nd ANC Conference.
The much publicised African National Congress party conference began on the eve of 16 December in Polokwane, Limpopo Province, and was expected to draw the participation of approximately 4 000 delegates.
Internet connectivity and digital resources was identified as a priority by organisers and Sahara agreed to set up and fully equip an onsite Internet Caf'e.
The digital resource and information centre incorporated WiFi and wireless technology, access points with full connectivity, Internet and e-mail.
"Technology can play a very important role in conferences of this magnitude, taking place at this level. Connectivity is imperative to facilitate real-time communication, which can make a meaningful difference," said Gary Naidoo, deputy MD of Sahara.
"Sahara is an established, recognised supplier to government, a key focus area for the company. In addition to a number of supply agreements, the company has a proud tradition of support for government-backed initiatives aimed at community and individual development. These include education, skills development and job creation," Naidoo continued.
