Sahara notebook focuses on DVD-writer with direct-to-disk capability

Johannesburg, 03 Feb 2005

Fast, efficient backups of video footage and more effective manageability of stored content are two solid reasons behind Sahara Computers' inclusion of direct-to-disk DVD-writer technology in its notebooks.

With its latest notebook offering, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) reiterates its commitment to the development of the digital lifestyle market and believes its focus on DVD-writer technology will improve security and ease of use.

"Any raw footage recorded can be managed with ease, downloaded from a video camera and stored with complete peace of mind. The Sahara notebook comes with a fire-wire port that allows the user to connect to a digital recording device, like a video camera, and download material. The product is competitively priced in comparison with what is now available and comes bundled with software to enable the consumer to digitally manipulate and manage material and literally 'create' movies or presentations," explains Atul Gupta, MD of Sahara Computers.

The Sahara notebook, powered by Intel Centrino TM technology, includes a built-in 8x speed DVD-RW with 1.7GHz processors that runs off Intel's 855GM chipset and offers up to 266MHz DDR SDRAM.

Key features include:

* Built-in touchpad with scroll function
* Battery life up to two hours (in Windows XP)
* Six USB version 2.0 ports, 1 Firewire port
* Four-in-one Smart Media Reader.

"We are entering an aggressive phase in terms of our overall contribution to the mobile and digital lifestyle arena. Mobile technology must imply convenience, connectivity and reliability, and that is precisely what we have engineered into the Sahara DVD-RW notebook," says Gupta.
