The advent of mobile technology and the proliferation of wireless applications, together with hardware replacement considerations, are factors that have collectively contributed towards an increase in competition within the South African PC arena. Projected growth within the sales of desktops, servers and notebooks has, for the most part, materialised.
However, building on an established brand and pitching it effectively against the whitebox counterpart requires true grit, says Atul Gupta, MD of Sahara Computers.
"Brands are identified and differentiated by the quality of their components, compatibility with peripherals, overall cost, performance, service and quality," says Gupta. "Reasons to go for an established brand should be compelling and clear, and this is where the competition comes into the picture."
