Sahara Systems, recently entered into an agreement with ACSA (Airport Company of South Africa) through which it will supply the company with the new Sahara Slim PCs to the value of R2.2-million.
Says Gordon Buitendach, corporate contact manager at Sahara Systems: "This particular model is ideal for ACSA's requirements, as it is compact and robust without losing any features or performance."
The Sahara Slim PCs will be deployed at various check-in counters at Johannesburg International Airport (JIA) international departures. They will also be used at Internet cafes situated around the international and the new domestic terminals.
"We'll also be using the PCs to display flight information and advertisements in the new domestic terminal at Johannesburg International," says Roy Louw, senior electronics engineer at ACSA.
Buitendach says the Sahara Slim PCs are powered by Intel Pentium 4 or an Intel Celeron processors and run on ASUS motherboards, the largest motherboard manufacturer in the world, which ensures a stable, efficient and cost effective platform to run mission critical applications..
"Inside its compact 8.8cm wide chassis, is a full-featured performance PC that includes all the key components such as DVD-ROM or CD-ROM, 32-bit 3D graphics, floppy, audio and 10/100 LAN adaptors," he says.
"Flexibility and convenience are provided with I/O ports located on the front panel and users have easy access to USB ports, optical S/PDIF out, 1394 ports, PCMCIA slot, headphone and microphone jacks."
