Sahara sponsors International Political Science Conference

Johannesburg, 02 Jul 2003

Sahara Computers is the technology sponsor of the 19th IPSA (International Political Science Association) World Congress, being held at the ICC in Durban from 29 June to 4 July. The congress, held on African soil for the first time, was officially opened by the Deputy President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, and is expecting about 1 800 delegates from over 55 countries.

Atul Gupta, managing director of Sahara Computers, says the company is proud to be associated with the congress, along with the European Union, Absa, Daimler Chrysler, Eskom and Durban Tourism. "Sahara has installed the latest Intel-based PCs that will be used at the registration desk, media centre, as well as in the Sahara Internet caf'e that will provide Internet access to the delegates and visitors at the event."

The registration desk will process applications done online and print delegate identity cards. Sahara has setup a fully functional media centre to assist journalists to access their e-mail, write and print articles as well as submit them in real-time throughout various parts of the world. In addition, the Sahara Internet Caf'e will allow delegates to stay in touch with their offices and family back home.

According to Gupta, the conference is a long-standing event held every three years, which attracts delegates from all over the globe. "Most notable for, and for the first time, the congress has attracted significant participation from across Africa. Government ministers and director generals from all over the continent are attending this year, giving further impetus to our own government's NEPAD initiative," concludes Gupta.
