Local PC brand, Sahara Computers, has co-sponsored a celebratory festival hosted by the Gauteng Department of Education at the Johannesburg Stadium, to honour the teachers in the province.
The event has garnered support from various teacher unions and school governing bodies to recognise the role that teachers play in the communities and economy by providing the building blocks of literacy and numeracy.
"Teachers have faced the challenge of transforming the education system and have risen above an iniquitous past in order to deliver and form part of the nation-building strategy. As a company that supports this change, Sahara Computers, through its black empowered business partners, Sahara Systems is actively involved in social development activities and place the education of our youth as a priority," says Atul Gupta, MD of Sahara Computers.
Sahara Computers distributes a wide range of "best-of-breed" information technology hardware and software products, as well as peripherals, components and consumables that are widely used in the South African business, governmental and educational sectors.
At the event, Sahara Systems displayed its latest technological solutions for education with live demonstrations of a classroom environment. The featured product, NetSupport School, is a single box solution delivering an advanced training and support tool for the modern classroom.
"NetSupport School is an innovative software solution that provides teachers and trainers with the ability to interact effortlessly with their students either on an individual, group or full classroom basis," says Gupta.
It offers a comprehensive range of features including the ability to display a screen on the student's workstation or view up to 16 screens on the tutor machine simultaneously.
As standard, a full testing module is included allowing for the design and delivery of customised tests together with full application and Web control modules, ensuring students use only approved applications on their workstations and visit only approved Web sites.
The mass event attracted more than 20 000 teachers from Gauteng and was a whole day affair with activities and prizes awarded on the hour, every hour.
