Samsung, Apple in Oz showdown
Apple Australia is demanding Samsung to send it its entire stock of Galaxy Tab 10.1 devices to be destroyed as part of a battle for control of the converged tablet and smartphone markets, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.
Apple has $76 billion in cash and is using this war chest to sue many of the competitors who are using Google's Android platform to challenge iPad and iPhone market dominance.
ZDNet says Samsung Australia has responded publicly about its latest legal battle with Apple, citing specific differences between the Australian and US versions of the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Samsung is not the only one caught in a legal battle over patent infringement claims with Apple. HTC brought its ongoing fight with Apple to the UK this week for another round of lawsuits.
In Australia, Apple sought to prevent Samsung from releasing its Galaxy Tab 10.1, states Telegraph.co.uk.
The new version of Samsung's tablet computer has a 10-inch screen and runs Google's Android operating system. Apple claims that it is a “blatant copy” of the iPad.
In a statement, Samsung says: “Apple filed a complaint with the Federal Court of Australia involving a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 variant that Samsung Electronics had no plans of selling in Australia. No injunction was issued by the court and the parties in the case reached a mutual agreement which stipulates that the variant in question will not be sold in Australia.”
