
Samsung boosts Smart TV range
Samsung has unveiled its new line of Smart TVs that let DirecTV customers access their TV service without the use of a set-top box, Venture Beat writes.
The company announced the feature addition at the Consumer Electronics Show, in Las Vegas.
At Samsung's press conference, the company showed off its latest set of Smart TVs with heavy emphasis on taking TVs to the next level of connectedness.
DirecTV has created the HR34 Home Media Centre HD-DVR, which replicates the set-top box UI and other features to be directly displayed on a Samsung Smart TV, Slash Gear reports.
Users will continue to have access to features such as live pause on all screens in the home, picture-in-picture, record five shows at once, and store up to 200 hours of content. The new RVU-enabled Samsung Smart TVs are expected to be available in spring 2012.
According to Read Write Web, Internet TV is expected to be a big trend of 2012 and, as the world's number one TV brand, Samsung is a company to watch. Especially given the gains Samsung made over 2011 with the Galaxy series of smartphones and tablets, which made it the leading vendor of Android-based devices in the world.
