Samsung digital vision on the horizon says Tarsus` le Roux

Johannesburg, 20 Sep 2000

In a recent visit to Samsung headquarters in Korea, Sarah le Roux, business manager for Samsung monitors at was offered a glimpse into the connected future envisioned by the electronics manufacturing giant. "As a leading producer and innovator in the world of electronics, Samsung predicts a future where the functionality of electronic devices will converge and increasingly rely on the Internet to enhance the lives of those that use them," she says.

In Samsung`s Korea head office, the Digitall concept is clearly defined, says Le Roux. "The convergence of electronic products is apparent with the demonstration of wristwatch telephones, a cellular telephone that integrates a digital camera and even household appliances that are connected to the Internet," she notes.

Already a leader in memory, LCD and CRT displays and cellular telephones, Samsung is clearly positioning itself to dominate world markets with combination products. This aggressive development program is backed by the company`s significant investments in research and development, with an average of nearly 7% of total sales reinvested in new product advances. "Nearly 20% of Samsung`s 59 000 staff worldwide are involved in R&D, which results in the company registering no less than 1544 patents in 1999 alone," concludes le Roux.
