Samsung has kicked off its bada 2.0 Power App Race, offering a total of $1 million in prize money.

The company says the competition will not be judged by organisers; instead, winners will be determined by consumer sales, with prizes awarded to the first 10 apps that achieve 100 000 accumulative downloads.

According to Samsung, 10 prizes will be awarded: five for game applications and five for non-game applications. “Winning applications will receive the 'Power App' mark at Samsung Apps, exclusive marketing and promotion benefits,” the company says.

Samsung says the competition will formally unveil the platform to developers, and apps should be built using bada SDK 2.0.0 or a higher version.

The bada platform has achieved success in Eastern Europe and China, according to Samsung.

Entries are open from now until midnight on 31 December. For more information, click here.
