Samsung, Microsoft collaborate

Samsung Electronics and Microsoft will collaborate on efficient energy usage in computers following a meeting between the CEOs of both companies in Seoul, reports YTN.

The companies aim to encourage PC users to purchase more environmentally-friendly PC systems.

Samsung expects substantial energy savings when Microsoft's flagship Windows 7 operating system and Samsung's 40 nanometer class DDR3 DRAM are used together.

Feds don't recycle computers

A new Government Accountability Office (GOA) report has found that federal agencies need a crash course in recycling electronic equipment, according to FierceGovernmentIT.

While there are programmes on the books to recycle old electronics, federal agencies are not stepping up to the plate to make it happen.

John Stephenson, GAO's director of natural resources and environmental issues, says the federal government is the world's biggest purchaser of electronics in the world, spending $75 billion in 2009.

Malaysia budgets for green IT

IT industry players have applauded the Malaysian government's plans to set aside funds from its 2010 budget, aimed at boosting green technology adoption across the country, states ZDNet Asia.

Unveiled by Prime Minister Najib Razak, the Malaysia Budget 2010 includes a dedicated 1.5 billion ringgit (R3.5 billion) fund to provide soft loans to suppliers and users of green technology.

The opposition party, however, remains unimpressed by he government's "lack of ideas" to boost penetration.
