Samsung Series 9 lands in SA

Samsung's second-generation Series 9 notebook, unveiled in January, is now available in SA.

The electronics company announced the availability of its Samsung Series 9 notebook, which eliminates the “unnecessary factors” in its predecessor, at various South African outlets this morning.

The Samsung Series 9 NP900X4D 15-inch-A01ZA is available at a recommended price of R14 999, while the NP900X3C 13-inch-A01ZA will retail at the recommended price of R15 999.

Both models are available at Samsung brand stores, including Clearwater Mall, in Johannesburg; Canal Walk, in Cape Town; Gateway shopping centre, in Umhlanga, as well as at The Digital Experience store, in Fourways (Johannesburg). The notebooks will be available in all premium IT retail stores shortly, says Samsung.

The 15-inch model measures 14.9mm and weighs 1.59kg, while the new 13-inch Series 9 measures 12.9mm and weighs 1.16kg - 28% smaller than its predecessor.

The new Series 9 carries Samsung's anti-reflective LED display technology with a 400nit HD+ LED SuperBright display and Image Enhancer technology for indoor and outdoor use.

The Samsung Series 9 comes loaded with a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition operating system and features an Intel Core i5 2467M processor, backed up by 4GB of RAM. It has a 128GB hard drive and offers a full-size SD card slot, one USB 2.0 port and one USB 3.0 port, a headphone/microphone combination jack, a VGA output via a dedicated dongle, microHDMI for video, and Gigabit Ethernet/LAN through another adapter.

The graphics processor is Intel's HD Graphics 3000 and the on-board camera resolution is 1.3MP.

For communications and networking, the Samsung Series 9 has and Bluetooth 3.0 HS features and network interface gigabit Ethernet. The battery, featuring six-cell lithium polymer technology, has run time of seven hours.
