Telkom and Samsung have announced a strategic partnership to improve smart TV services in SA.
Samsung will co-operate with Telkom in marketing bundled packages of Smart TVs and fixed-line broadband solutions.
At the Samsung Africa Forum, in Cape Town, last week, the electronics manufacturer showcased its new line-up of Smart TVs for 2012, which include new user interfaces, including motion and voice control, content sharing and management via the cloud and a built-in “evolution kit” for quick upgrading of software.
Business leader for visual display at Samsung SA, Justin Shaw, says: “Much of the market debate around Smart TVs recently has been driven around access to these features that are highly dependent on stable, high quality broadband locally.
“We are very proud that we are able to offer exactly what our market needs, access to affordable broadband that ensures fast, interconnected TV services and entertainment experiences.
Telkom's executive for consumer business support, Sam Phajane, says: “We know the quality and stability of fixed-line broadband makes it the premium connectivity choice that will maximise the possibilities inherent to Samsung's Smart TV technology.”
Details surrounding the package deals are yet to be released.
