San Francisco State University selects Oracle Public Sector Financials

Oracle Chosen Over PeopleSoft and SCT Banner to Streamline Business Processes, Slash Financial Reporting Time
Johannesburg, 15 Apr 1998

Oracle Corporation has announced that San Francisco State University (SFSU), one of the largest universities in California`s nationally recognised 23 campus California State University system, selected Oracle over PeopleSoft and SCT Banner to provide an integrated, Web-enabled financial system. SFSU will implement Oracle Public Sector Financials to streamline business processes, improve access to timely , and reduce costs. The university expects the new Oracle system to save three to four days of labor per month, speed internal document routing by two to three days and cut ad hoc reporting time from a week or more to just minutes. Oracle Public Sector Financials will replace SFSU`s legacy systems with a Web-enabled system that automates workflow, simplifies financial reporting processes and improves access to financial and management data. Due to outmoded technology at SFSU, it takes a couple of days to get an ad hoc report from the university controller`s office and the requesting department ends up with information that is several days old. By deploying the applications on the Web so that users can access them from their Web browser, SFSU intends to cut maintenance and administration costs while leveraging its existing investment in hardware systems. SFSU expects this online information access to significantly streamline business processes, including budgeting, purchasing, applying and billing for research grants, and provide departments with greater control and autonomy over their day-to-day operations. In addition, the new system will enable the controller`s office to reallocate staff time from administrative work to monitoring and quality control, improving efficiency and service to the university community. "Our vision is to provide all of the university communities with the tools they need to be successful, and Oracle has those tools," said Larry Ware, University Controller for SFSU and Director of Administration for the SFSU Foundation. "Oracle will enable my office to better use its resources for trouble-shooting and quality control. Oracle will help us grow and continue to improve service."
