A feature-rich new version of StoragePro Services IP SAN management software has been introduced by SANRAD for its award-winning V-Switch family of IP SAN solutions.
Represented in SA by major local distributor, the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group, SANRAD is a leader in developing and delivering intelligent iSCSI IP SAN solutions.
The new features in StoragePro Version 2.0 include SNAPshot, DataCloning, FastCopy and support for RADIUS authentication and the enhancements for the V-Switch family focus on three IP-SAN areas: data duplication and protection, security and discovery, and improving the industry standard for ease of use.
Data duplication and protection features enable SANRAD customers to eliminate the backup window for production volumes with the new SNAPshot feature, to accommodate data growth with on-the-fly volume expansion and maintain up to four mirrored copies of any volume for data protection or data cloning.
"With the new software users can also copy data between volumes, devices or storage systems at up to a TB an hour and use FC UltraPathing to load balance or reroute IP traffic over multi-pathed FC storage architectures," says Luca Ambrosi, Square One's national practice manager, storage.
The new security and discovery enhancements in V2.0 include RADIUS support to authenticate a secure iSCSI connection, iSNS and SLP iSCSI client support to ensure iSCSI target discovery for continuous data access, and enhanced Access Control List (ACL) to securely bind and set read/write policies for individual storage volumes to a single or group of hosts.
"SANRAD continues its industry leadership in ease of use with the V-Switch family now supporting email notification to the system administrator if the IP SAN requires attention," adds Ambrosi. "The V-Switch 3000 now also has onboard removable PCMCIA compact flash memory so configuration information can be stored and removed for safekeeping or used to configure new V-Switch systems."
The latest StoragePro graphic user interface can manage a single V-Switch, a V-Switch cluster, multiple V-Switch clusters or any combination and number of V-Switch products from a single screen, providing a single management interface for small to large environments.
Ambrosi says the new features give a hint of what's in store for SANRAD users in the future: "SANRAD is delivering on the promises it made to the market and there's more to come."
The StoragePro IP SAN management software is bundled with all SANRAD V-Switches and runs inside the switch, requiring no host agents or special licences.
