Attendance by over 200 people at the "SAP Records Management in Public Sector" roadshows in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban recently confirms the growing importance and interest in records management in the public sector and industry.
SAP used the opportunity to showcase its "Records Management for Public Sector" (SAP RMPS) functionality. The SAP Records Management system recently received full accreditation from "The National Archives" in the UK - one of only 13 electronic records management systems to hold this accreditation. It is particularly significant for South Africa, as the South African National Archives Records Management standard is based on the UK standard.
Martin Brown, the SAP Solution Architect responsible for Records Management, led the discussion and demonstration of the SAP RMPS system. As a part of the SAP ERP & CRM system, it has the major advantage of seamless integration with SAP ERP & CRM business systems, used by many major companies and public bodies to manage their documents and business, which means that capturing and using of records are eased significantly. Furthermore, Brown stated that "as the SAP RMPS system is delivered within the application layer of its latest versions, it provides the best value for money ERMS system available to organisations using SAP today, and can play a significant role in reducing the total cost of ownership of the SAP system".
NokusaEI is the SAP Africa partner tasked with the implementation of SAP Records Management in South Africa, and Abie Spies, MD of NokusaEI, said: "The certification of SAP Records Management for Public Sector by The National Archives of the UK is a significant step in strengthening the full enterprise content management (ECM) functionality in SAP. Coupled with the well established SAP Document Management System (DMS), SAP Knowledge Management (KM), SAP ArchiveLink and Imaging functionality, SAP now have a truly balanced and integrated ECM product offering."
