SAS, the leader in business analytics, is again number one on FORTUNE magazine's annual 100 Best Companies to Work For list. SAS was listed as one of the best for healthcare, childcare and work-life balance. Since this list was established in 1998, SAS has been on it every year, with this year marking the eighth time SAS has been in the top 10.
SAS CEO Jim Goodnight said: "This high honour rounds out a tremendous year for us at SAS. We delivered more software in 2010 than ever before in our history and grew our workforce by 2.4%. Our employees are the lifeline of our success. As we enter our 36th year of business, we look forward to continuing our deep investment in employee satisfaction, wellness and creativity."
"The culture at SAS presents a vibrant work environment in which people can thrive and be challenged, while maintaining a healthy work-life balance," said Jenn Mann, Vice-President of Human Resources at SAS. "This great recognition proves yet again that creating a culture of happy, healthy employees drives productivity and allows SAS to focus on continued innovation and customer service."
Consistently recognised for its benefits and work-life programmes, SAS believes that happy, healthy employees are the key to driving the innovation that keeps SAS in a leadership position among business analytics vendors. By providing on-site amenities such as healthcare, subsidised childcare, a 66 000-square-foot recreation and fitness centre, and numerous wellness programmes, the company boasts one of the lowest employee turnover rates in the industry: 2.6% versus the industry norm of 22%. By reducing day-to-day distractions, SAS has realised lower recruitment and retention costs, as well as closer customer relationships and continual product innovation. SAS' long-term commitment and investment in employee satisfaction contributes to company revenue growth and profitability.

To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Three-hundred-and-eleven companies participated in this year's survey. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the Institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third of the scoring is based on the company's responses to the Institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programmes and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, internal communications, training, recognition programmes and diversity efforts.
