SAS Institute appoints new head of commercial business unit

As part of its drive to better rationalise its local business unit, business intelligence giant SAS Institute has appointed Kerry Evans as the General Manager of the Commercial Business Division.

As no stranger to SAS, Evans once headed up the financial services sector of the business, before she left to pursue greater opportunities within the corporate financial services and ICT consulting industries.

With more than 20 years of business experience within the ICT sector, Evans brings a breadth of management expertise, business skills and core industry understanding to the local SAS offices.

"At SAS we have taken a strategic decision to better align our business with our customers, which has seen a clear line being drawn between the services delivered by both the commercial and public divisions within our business," states Riad Gydien, Country Manager at SAS Institute South Africa.

"But no business can survive in this competitive industry landscape without the right people at the helm. Kerry brings with her a wealth of industry experience as well as direct experience with SAS itself; we believe she is going to be an invaluable member of our senior management team."

More recently, Evans held management positions at the IQ Business Group and Progress Software.

"Business is about people. While you can have the best tools in the industry, unless you have the right people, motivation, direction and tenacity as well as work ethic you are going nowhere," states Evans.

"SAS has superior technologies and fantastic people, whom I look forward to working with to drive our commercial business strategy - the commercial business unit has been built with the intention of answering to customer demand to meet their specific business needs.

"Too often one can water down the value you are supposed to deliver to your customers by being all things to all people. At SAS, we want to be sure our customers receive the right technology and service, and can view us as a trusted partner and not just a technology solution provider," ends Evans.
