SAS integration customers to lower costs, fast-track implementations with extended Meta Integration agreement

Johannesburg, 24 Feb 2006

SAS, the leader in business intelligence, has entered into an agreement with Meta Integration Technology Inc (MITI) to further extend support for open metadata architecture by offering customers the option of bundling Meta Integration Model Bridges (MIMB) with SAS Data Integration software.

Select Meta Integration bridges will be available at no additional cost, while the rest will be available through a licensing fee.

With Meta Integration bridges, SAS enables users to exchange metadata freely between a range of products from different vendors, minimising the risk and cost associated with maintaining a variety of software environments. Thus, SAS Data Integration customers will enjoy lower implementation costs and faster implementations, as data integrators may now point and click to integrate and manage metadata from a wider variety of sources in the unique SAS central metadata platform.

"The partnership between SAS and Meta Integration Technology brings added value and an innovative competitive advantage to customers," said Christian Bremeau, president and CEO of MITI. "The ability to import and export metadata leverages metadata for analysis, increases the value for business intelligence and enables better management decisions."

"Our alliance with MITI demonstrates SAS's ongoing commitment to open metadata," said Annemarie Cronje, product manager for Data Integration at SAS. "By offering this improved flexibility, SAS will help customers knit together their dynamic technology environments, with the promise of quicker return on investment from business intelligence solutions which share the central metadata platform."

Meta Integration Technology

Incorporated in 1997, Meta Integration Technology, Inc (MITI) is a privately held company (100% employee owned) based at the heart of Silicon Valley (Mountain View) in California. MITI is the leading metadata component provider to major database, data integration, business intelligence, repository and modelling tool vendors. MITI tools manage and analyse the complete enterprise metadata lifecycle across heterogeneous vendors. Solutions range from reusable metadata movement and transformation components to total metadata repository solution. Over 50 Model Bridges integrate standards like OMG UML and CWM, and the most popular modelling, ETL, EII and OLAP/BI tool vendors. The open repository implements powerful metadata version/configuration management, browsing, comparison, integration, mapping and reporting.

MITI provides detailed lineage and impact analysis graphical tools for today's complex multi-vendor environments, therefore providing the "technical truth" on the origin of data behind all reports (as required for the Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance). MITI has established numerous partnerships in both government and industry sectors. MITI is also involved with all relevant metadata standards, including the Object Management Group (OMG) as a domain member (CWM and UML XMI). MITI's Meta Integration Model Bridge (MIMB) product is used by a number of Fortune 500 companies.
