SAS, the leader in business intelligence, celebrated Independence Day last week by announcing that it has joined the Liberty Alliance Project as an associate member. SAS will lend its expertise in business intelligence software and services to aid in the consortium's effort to develop an open and interoperable standard for federated network identity and identity-based Web services.
As a member of the alliance, SAS will put the knowledge and updates of the Liberty Alliance Project to work by delivering better solutions and products that will further the goal of the alliance: allowing individuals and businesses to interact more easily with one another while respecting the privacy and security of identity information.
SAS, as a leading supplier of business intelligence tools and solutions, recognises the importance of developing technology to help deliver information to any customer or partner in a safe and secure manner. SAS joined the Liberty Alliance to help ensure that their products use this technology to aid its customers and their partners.

The Liberty Alliance Project (http://www.projectliberty.org) is a consortium formed to develop open standards for federated network identity management and identity-based services. The alliance is made up of 160 members, representing a worldwide cross-section of organisations ranging from educational institutions and government organisations, to service providers and financial institutions, to technology firms and wireless providers. Federated identity will help drive the next generation of the Internet, offering businesses and consumers convenience and choice. Membership is open to all commercial and non-commercial organisations.
