Johannesburg, 30 Oct 2001

SAS Institute SA has named technology systems integrator, Omega Scientific Research (OSR) a reseller.

According to Cliff Koyabe, executive director at the OSR Group, the black economic empowerment company has harnessed its core competencies to focus on the technology, media, telecom, financial, utilities and transport sectors, particularly within sub-Saharan Africa.

"We have built a solid reputation on our capabilities and strong focus in these selected markets. Our 42 professionals provide a high value consulting capability."

Koyabe maintains that OSR's systems integration competence will extend SAS' product set by delivering customised solutions to their clients. "The development of complex solutions for the sub-Saharan telecomm sector in particular is integral to our relationship with SAS," he says. "SAS will benefit from our expertise within this sector specifically, enabling them to take advantage of the liberalisation currently happening the within telecomm market."

Kerry Evans, national indirect sales manager at SAS Institute, agrees.

"With many South African organisations expanding into the rest of Africa, this marks an important growth area for SAS. Appointing OSR as a reseller forms part of our new model of setting up relationships with resellers who have expertise in specific markets or geographical areas."

"Basically, it will be advantageous to SAS to extend its reach into less marginalised markets with a partner which has an existing footprint in these areas," Koyabe comments.

The partnership was officially effective from 1 May 2001.
