Saudi Arabia gets AV corporation

The new corporation will be administratively run by the Ministry of Culture and Information, but will have an independent legal status.

According to Saudi Gazette, Khoja said the decision was part of the restructuring of the media sector in the country and complementary to the establishment of the Radio and TV Corporation and the Saudi Press Agency as two independent entities.

The tasks of the new corporation include organising audiovisual transmission and developing and overseeing content in accordance with the Kingdom's media policy that consolidates the country's social, religious and cultural values.

Khoja said the new move would be one of the landmark achievements during the rule of King Abdullah in various fields, including audiovisual media that comprises radio, television and all means of media and communications, both traditional and modern, Zawya notes.

"It would also work out a flexible and clear framework for a media broadcasting licence by incorporating trends in the business and technological fields with an extra keenness to develop this sector," he said.
