SBi announces SB Image

Johannesburg, 01 Apr 2004

Solutions for Business Intelligence (SBi), a subsidiary of JSE-listed ERP.com and formerly known as Exsol, today announced the release of a new version (7.0) of its cutting-edge, document-imaging software that will be known as SB Image.

This proprietary software, developed by SBi in SA, offers users a number of new features that includes enhanced security of stored documents; increased reliability and stability; and improved user-interface features.

Furthermore, the new version has specifically been developed with the user's needs in mind in that the flexible design allows SB Image to integrate with the client's business, rather than the business having to adapt to fit the application; and, as a locally developed system, SBi is able to service the requirements of the client more easily and directly.

In addition to the above, SB Image supports a wide range of industrial scanners, thereby giving clients more choices and flexibility in this regard. SB Image makes it extremely easy to retrieve and distribute stored documents to those that need them, and since it is integrated with MS Outlook as well as with leading computer-based fax applications such as RightFax and WinFax, it provides the capability of direct e-mailing and faxing of documents from the application itself.

The SB Image system has been successfully implemented at a number of clients over several months, undergoing rigorous testing in real-world situations. The application now has several levels of security, making it possible to control access to sensitive documentation stored within the system and at the same time, multiple users can access the same document simultaneously. SB Image is developed in Visual Basic and incorporates the latest Com+ and OO technology; thus, this API-based, three-tier system allows for easy integration with Windows-based applications.

"This new version of our document imaging software has also been redesigned in order to give it the scalability that is now required for the local market in particular," commented Cobus van Niekerk, MD of SBi. "Many more organisation will be able to utilise this latest version knowing that it will be able to handle their on-going growth requirements especially as the revised pricing model has been specifically designed with this in mind."

Optional maintenance contracts are also available with SB Image, which include free version upgrades of the system over the contract period, and additionally, SBI has several agreements in place with organisations such as scanning bureaus and physical document storage firms in order to provide an expanded range of services to both the installed base and to future/potential customers.
