Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced the new FibreCAT N40i storage platform, which rounds off the company`s network-attached storage (NAS) portfolio for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
This upper-range storage solution also integrates the Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) connectivity option developed by Fujitsu Siemens Computers partner String Bean Software - at no extra cost. The solution also takes advantage of Microsoft`s Windows Storage Server 2003, making it optimal for use as a file and print server.
Easy transfer, management of storage data
The iSCSI-powered FibreCAT N40i opens up storage area network (SAN) solutions to the Ethernet world. "iSCSI makes it easier to transfer storage data over existing IP networks," says Rui de Oliveira, product manager at Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
"At the same time, this interface technology offers all the benefits of a SAN, without being as complex and cost-intensive as FibreChannel (FC) technology. By opting for the iSCSI approach, users achieve better results in terms of consolidation, scalability and management, and save money as well. Simplifying storage management such as training and operating activities can help lower the total cost of ownership even further. An additional bonus is that distance-related limitations in storage environments are now history."
Comprehensive storage solution for SMEs
The new system comes in a 2U rack version that is right-sized for the constantly growing storage requirements of SMEs. Featuring hot-swappable SCSI hard drives (36GB, 72GB, 146GB, 300GB), the N40i scales freely from 64GB right up to 1.2TB, and when necessary can be extended via FC up to approximately 35TB using external storage systems (SAN gateway).
Compatible with all anti-virus software and easy to integrate into any IT environment, the N40i storage system offers users a crucial advantage - investment protection. Combined with the Windows Storage Server Feature Pack, the FibreCAT N40i makes the perfect network storage device for Microsoft Exchange. Extensively tested and shipped ready-to-run, the N40i is a solution that shrinks integration costs to a minimum. For the SME customer segment, Fujitsu Siemens Computers now offers two high-performance iSCSI solutions: the high-end FibreCAT N40i and the entry-level FiberCAT N20i with up to 1TB of storage capacity.
