Caps imaging Development Kit from Scalado is being used in over 150 million mobile phone handsets.

The software is embedded in more than 50 camera phone models, the company says.

Caps offers a central processing unit and memory-efficient software solution, which decreases image processing times when capturing, viewing, and editing large images.

As manufacturers get smarter with the number of megapixels they can offer, with many phones providing five to eight megapixels, the need for powerful and memory-efficient image processing software is important, Scalado says.

"As megapixels in camera phones continue to grow, users will be taking more images with their mobile phones, which are larger and need to be processed, manipulated and then sent quickly. Thus the need for fast and efficient image processing is even more vital," said Mats Jacobson, CEO of Scalado.
