Scantec's Printer /Media division now offers a label printing bureau service for the bulk pre-printing of barcoded labels for individual products and packaging.
"Our new bulk pre-printing service is of specific interest to high volume production facilities who need a constant and reliable supply of barcoded labels," says Roland Pinz, Scantec's national sales manager for printers and media.
"By outsourcing the printing of the barcode labels to us, producers are able to concentrate on their core activities."
To date, Scantec's Printer / Media division has been better known for the supply of medium and low-volume barcode printers and media. With the acquisition of its high quality, industrial Aquaflex label converter / printer it is now able to deliver pre-printed barcode labels to high volume producers and packagers. Several top South African producers and exporters in the FMCG market are already using our bureau service.
One key client orders over 130 million labels a year from Scantec to cover its entire range of packaged goods produced at five facilities around South Africa.
"We won our first contract on the strength and quality of our labels," says Pinz. The quality of the labels is important because the applicators used in the factories are highly sensitive. Badly die-cut labels result in the backing paper snapping and stopping the production run. Blunt die-cutting blades cause fine paper dust that can damage the applicators.
The quality of the printed barcodes is just as important as scanners need to be able to read them easily. Badly printed labels slow down operations wherever goods have to pass a scanner. This causes problems in warehousing as well as the point-of-sale environment. Scantec's high tech quality assurance procedures mean no downtime at packaging plants thus saving costs and meeting deadlines across the board.
