Schools offered free e-mail software

Johannesburg, 20 Sep 2011

Prefix Technologies is supplying its bulk e-mail software, pMailer, free to all schools, in an attempt to contribute to positive social change, by helping the sector utilise technology to become more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Prefix Technologies also notes that it is subsidising the use of pMailer's SMS communication tool at a flat rate of 20c per SMS, regardless of the number of text messages sent to parents.

Commenting on the Tech for Schools campaign, Walter Penfold, MD of Prefix Technologies, says pMailer software can help schools cut costs by reducing the amount of paper and postage services they use, while also lowering the administrative burden of communication.

More important, he explains, pMailer allows schools to target communications accurately and easily, while at the same time helping to build a supportive and involved parent community.

“A tool like pMailer is useful for routine communications, like timetables and updates, and it can be invaluable when the school has a crisis on its hands and needs to get information out to parents quickly. We're making a really effective business tool available to schools, and I'm sure they will find many ways to use it,” says Penfold.

“It's easy to get a school onto the Tech for Schools programme. First of all, decide on the school you would like to nominate, and then log on to the pMailer site or our Facebook page. There you will be able to fill in the details of the school that you want to benefit from this programme,” he says.
