Sixteen Gauteng school children and four teachers have undergone a course in Web design, through a schools development project sponsored by UniForum.

The Easter holiday project, held at the Solomon Mahlangu Secondary School in Mamelodi East, taught 16 children and four teachers from four Gauteng high schools the basics of HTML programming, with a view to helping them to create their own Web sites for their schools.

The children will be given a follow-up course in the July school holidays, after which their Web sites will go live. The designers of the best sites will be awarded prizes such as cameras for their efforts.

The project was spearheaded by the Digital Interactive Media Association and sponsored by UniForum. Partners in the project were SchoolNet SA, Concept Interactive and On-Site Training.

Richard Rayne, MD of On-Site Training, says the course was highly successful. "The children responded very well to the training and produced some brilliant Web pages," he comments.
