Xhead = Scottish canal operator spends £2.3m on IT

, BCS reports.

The company, which manages Scotland's canal , has chosen technology provider Amor Group to revamp its systems over the next three years. The firm will provide BWS with services including IT infrastructure, storage, business , disaster recovery and desktop servers.

Computing.co.uk says the contract opportunity arose after a decision that sees BWS coming under the remit of the Scottish government from April 2012.

Debs Hurst, financial controller at BWS, believes the organisation required a new IT system to succeed as a standalone organisation and continue to grow.

Hurst says: "With Scottish ministers having decided that we shall remain in public ownership as a standalone public body, we needed a partner to help us develop a new ICT system and one that is flexible enough to support business growth going forward.”

Amor will design a computer system for the canal operator, which is being split up from its partner organisations in England and Wales, and so needs standalone IT infrastructure, Scotsman.com states.
