Customers of local Internet service provider (ISP) Screamer Telecoms battled to connect to its services last week, after a data centre upgrade changed the IP structure.
The company says the upgrade to its data centre was planned for Monday last week, and customers should have been up and running on Tuesday. However, several clients complained to ITWeb, saying they could not connect.
Screamer's main data centre and network control centre is based in Centurion and supports most of its network. The company was one of the first smaller ISPs to offer WiMax solutions, a move that made many in the industry nervous.
According to marketing and PR manager Bianca Robins, the upgrade involved the replacement of specific key hardware elements, in addition to implementing a public IP configuration.
Customers who had static IP addresses would not have been able to connect. “Clients who make use of static DNS to connect to the Screamer network have to either change the static DNS address or remove it,” she adds.
While the company says the call centre has been operational, at least one customer battled for 74 hours to get in contact with a technician to help resolve his static IP issues. Clients in contact with ITWeb seem to have had their troubles resolved.
Robins says if customers are still experiencing trouble, they should contact the support desk on 087 940 6800.
