Screws tighten for corporate thieves

Johannesburg, 30 Aug 2005

With recent research showing that 85% of fraudulent events in South African businesses are performed by an organisation`s insiders (55% by management, 30% by employees), those responsible for risk management and governance have their work cut out for them. Unfortunately for the criminally minded, things are about to change.

IPLocks, the leading provider of enterprise database security and information risk management solutions, has entered into an agreement with Magix Integration (Magix) to distribute IPLocks solutions for SA and the Sub-Saharan region. Magix is a local specialist in enterprise risk management.

"IPLocks is excited to partner with a tier-one enterprise risk management organisation like Magix," said Mark Jordan, IPLocks managing director for EMEA.

"Magix adds significant value to the IPLocks software solution by providing customers with quality professional services, training and technical support. By joining forces we can provide customers with a strong foundation for protecting their business-critical databases."

"Database dependent companies face the highest risk of information theft as most of their intellectual capital resides in databases that need to be protected from internal and external threats," says Magix director, Amir Lubashevsky.

"With the growing importance of the risk management, compliance and governance arenas in SA, the arrival of IPLocks will enhance management`s control of their business."

Lubashevsky explains that "super users" or senior managers entrusted with access to privileged data rarely have their actions monitored and are often responsible for changing, stealing and storing, selling or even maliciously destroying company data.

Traditional security approaches like perimeter-based security, encryption and database management systems cannot stop these individuals from carrying out these nefarious activities. The result is damage to the company`s brand value and possible erosion of shareholder value.

According to Lubashevsky, only a strong database and information risk management solution that continuously and non-invasively monitors, tracks and records user behaviour throughout the enterprise provides an effective and reliable first and last line of defence.

"This is the uniqueness of IPLocks," he adds. "It helps managers in the security, financial, risk management and IT domains effectively secure the information their businesses rely on. It enhances the management of database security vulnerabilities and simplifies compliance and privacy protection.

"Ultimately IPLocks provides a comprehensive software solution that achieves privacy, security and governance compliance. Important data across all database platforms is protected and detailed compliance reporting can be generated," Lubashevsky concludes.

Magix provides a full consultancy service coupled with free vulnerability assessments (limited to three databases) to clients interested in IPLocks. The company also provides installation, implementation, training and after sales support. The extensive portfolio of IPLocks` database and information risk management solutions is available nationwide.
