With organisations facing a digital data explosion and the increasing number of 'always on' businesses, the backup window is virtually a thing of the past.
IT professionals are constantly under pressure to keep networks up and running, and the challenge will be future-proof systems and integrated storage solutions that will contribute to overall company efficiency and productivity.
The new range of HP Ultrium storage devices has been launched to meet these needs. The HP Superstore Ultrium 215, 230, Superstore Autoloaders and Tape Libraries are now available through SDD, the focused IT distribution company in the Siltek Technology Chain Group.
The Ultrium 215 is the first half-height tape drive to offer up to 200GB capacity at a sustainable transfer rate of 54GB per hour (15MBps). The Ultrium 230 offers the same storage capacity but at a sustainable transfer rate of 108GBph (30MBps).
The new Superstore
Autoloader can load up to 9 x 200 GB tapes (that's a massive 1.8TB) of storage space and features the same transfer rate as the 230 model. The Superstore tape libraries, however, can provide capacity of between 4TB and 12TB of storage space at a sustainable transfer rate ranging from 216GBph all the way up to 648GBph. With this range, IT managers will have more storage solutions than a squirrel can shake a stick at.
According to Richard Stainforth, Product Manager for HP Storage at SDD: "IT managers are having to deal with more files, more applications and more client PCs with higher capacity drives. This all adds up to more than most systems can swallow - leaving efficiency and profitability under threat."
Richard continues: "Here's some food for thought. Even at entry-level, HP Ultrium gives you a massive 200GB per cartridge, and while the future for other tape formats is unclear, HP Ultrium is guaranteed to scale up to 1.6TB over the next five years."
HP Ultrium drives offer the highest recording density of any linear tape technology, and the implementation of dual-mode compression uses intelligent analysis to reduce uncompressible data to less than 0.05%, compared to a typical 12.5% with other tape technologies.
SDD offers a the whole range of HP Storage solutions to meet the growing demand for increased storage capacity.
