Undersea cable company Seacom has appointed an executive to drive the company's commercial .

Seacom said yesterday that Byron Clatterbuck would take the reins as chief commercial officer (CCO) of the company with immediate effect.

Possessing over 15 years' experience in the telecommunications industry, Clatterbuck has held a number of senior international executive positions during his career. The most recent was as president of Tata Communications' Global Service Provider Segment, a company operating the largest private subsea cable system in the world. Prior to that, Clatterbuck held senior executive positions at BT, Level 3, and Reach.

Seacom CEO Mark Simpson says it is time for the company to drive new services and capabilities into Africa's service provider marketplace, and Clatterbuck's appointment is in line with this strategy. “[His] global experience in working with customers and in the wholesale market will be key for us as we grow our service and revenue portfolio.”

“Africa is poised to be a key new growth driver and the development story of this decade, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to lend my international skills and experience to a rapidly growing and developing company like Seacom.”

Seacom says Clatterbuck will be responsible for leading Seacom's go-to-market strategy, including the management of the global Seacom sales teams. “In addition, he will bring his experience and knowledge of global wholesale services to assist in the development and launch of new services, as well as entry into new markets.”
