Johannesburg, 06 Jan 1999

Seagate Technology, a leading manufacturer of computer tape drive products, today announced it is offering three-year warranty coverage on its TapeStor DAT and Scorpion DAT drives and autoloaders. The company also broadened its REACT two-business-day replacement program to cover the drives and autoloaders for three years and expanded REACT coverage for authorized distributors of Seagate DAT and Sidewinder AIT drives and autoloaders in Australia and Japan. All drives shipped after July 1, 1998 will benefit from the additional coverage.

"Seagate is clearly focused on the server and network market space and our three-year warranty is designed to meet the needs of this market," said Kevin Perry, senior director of marketing and business development for Seagate Removable Storage Solutions. "We now provide the most comprehensive warranty coverage on the market for our DAT and Sidewinder AIT drives, giving our customers the level of confidence they need to backup and restore the data they depend on every day."

Ideal for all leading server platforms and network operating systems running Windows 95, Windows 98, NT, NetWare and UNIX, Seagate Scorpion DAT drives and autoloaders combine a range of capacities from 8 to 96 Gbytes with data transfer rates of up to 2.2 Mbytes per second and a mean time between failure (MTBF) of up to 320,000 hours. Designed for automated tape libraries and mid-range servers running Windows NT, NetWare and UNIX, Seagate Sidewinder AIT drives and autoloaders provide from 50 to 200 Gbytes of capacity with data transfer rates of up to 6 Mbytes per second and up to 250,000 hours MTBF. Both Scorpion and Sidewinder drives come in internal and external form factors and feature Seagate`s REACT two-business-day replacement program.

Seagate`s REACT program provides industry-leading customer service by ensuring expedited replacement of drives. REACT is available on Scorpion and TapeStor DAT and Sidewinder AIT tape drives and autoloaders sold to authorized distributors in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Japan.

In the event of a drive failure during the warranty period, Seagate will send a replacement drive within two business days of the issuance of an RMA, if a customer has a Seagate account or provides a credit card for security. If the customer does not have an account or does not wish to provide a credit card, a replacement product will be shipped within two business days upon receipt of the initially purchased product, returned to Seagate in the original, or approved, packaging.
