Answering the call for still more hard disc capacity on the desktop, Seagate Technology has announced the latest addition to its 3.5-inch Medalist line - an Ultra ATA interface drive capable of storing 10.2 gigabytes (GB) of information.Alastair Stewart, regional sales manager Middle East and Africa at Seagate Technology, says the Medalist 10240 spins at 5,400 rpm, performs 11-millisecond average seeks and is capable of transferring at a rate up to 33 Mbytes/second via the Ultra ATA interface. "The drive is equipped with magneto-resistive heads which enable higher areal densities and partial response - maximum likelihood (PRML) read channel technology for faster throughput during read/write operations," he says.Other features include a newly designed mechanical latch for greater resistance to non-operational shock as well as Seagate`s innovative SeaShield PCB protective device for improved reliability. As with all Seagate hard disc drives, Medalist 10240 ships through the channel with the company`s exclusive DiscWizard installation and partitioning ."As people`s lives become increasingly information-centric, they need to quickly and easily get to the information they need - in the format they need it," says Joel Stead, senior vice president, International Sales Operations. "With over 10GB capacity and strong performance, the Medalist 10240 is an excellent storage solution for turning vast amounts of data into actionable information. "The new drive also takes the next step in greater ease-of-integration, leveraging established technologies across many product families. This enhances customers` abilities to easily integrate the Medalist 10240 into desktop computer systems."
