Seagate, McAfee drive notebook security

Storage solutions provider Seagate is shipping its self-encrypting notebook PC hard drives with up to 320GB of capacity, to the worldwide channel, says Market Watch.

Additionally, Dell is now shipping a notebook with a 160GB self-encrypting hard drive and McAfee is set to provide software for the enterprise-wide management of notebooks with Seagate Secure hard drives.

According to Seagate, lost or stolen notebooks can cost companies millions of dollars in compromised proprietary information, and threatens consumers with the high cost of theft, yet many computers remain unprotected.

NEC with Sysix

NEC, a provider of IT, network and identity management solutions, has partnered with Sysix Technologies, a provider of technology solutions, to resell NEC's enterprise-class servers, reports Centre Daily Times.

The partnership allows Sysix to leverage NEC's portfolio of Intel processor-based enterprise servers, for enterprise solutions.

Bill Laflamme, VP of technology solutions for Sysix, says: "Combined with services from Sysix, NEC and Sysix together can improve virtualisation performance, as well as application availability and performance in order to meet increasing IT workload demands."

MS, Sun sign agreement

Microsoft and Sun Microsystems have revealed the MSN Toolbar is now included as an option in the download for the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), states Channel Web.

The deal will allow Internet Explorer users who download the JRE to access Windows Live Search, Hotmail and Messenger.

Yusuf Mehdi, senior VP of Microsoft's Online Audience Business, says the deal will drive more volume for Microsoft's search advertisers. “This agreement with Sun Microsystems is another important milestone in our strategy to secure broad-scale distribution for our search offering, enabling millions more people to experience the benefits of Live Search.”
