Enhanced Agent supports Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
Seagate Software, a provider of storage management solutions for the MicrosoftWindows NT Server and Microsoft Windows NT Workstation operating systems, has announced the release of an updated version of Seagate Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SQL Server that includes support for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
Backing up crucial databases is a significant element in protecting vital company information, says Barry Goffe, SQL Server product manager, Microsoft. With Seagate Software's updated version of Seagate Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SQL Server, users may easily and reliably protect their data while their database is still up and running. This saves the customer time and ensures that important information is always accessible.
As the first COM-based backup solution to support Microsoft's SQL Server 7.0, Seagate Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SQL Server offers new features for protecting SQL databases using Microsoft`s Virtual Device Interface (VDI), providing online backup capabilities, including full-backup and transaction log backup, says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager for MEA at Seagate Software, Network and Storage Management Group (NSMG).
Designed to offer superior client/server flexibility, the updated agent continues to feature faster performance using SQL Server`s multi-pipe database backup capabilities to back up and restore data to a single drive. It also offers remote and local management of SQL Server backups for administration ease and Database Consistency Checking for increased data reliability. In addition, the upgraded version of Seagate Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SQL Server [OR take out Seagate Backup Exec Agent and say the upgraded version we can't use only part of the product name] continues to support versions 6.0 and 6.5.
The new updated version offers customers the flexibility needed to customise their database protection strategies. It provides options to back up the entire SQL Server database, transaction logs and user-defined tables (supported by Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 only) while the database is running, says Van Noordwyk.
Full database backup allows the entire database, including system tables, user-defined tables and transaction logs to be backed up simultaneously. The transaction log backups protect only the data contained in the transaction log since the last backup and then remove transactions that have already been committed to the database, thereby saving valuable disk space.
With this enhanced version of Seagate Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SQL Server, we are offering customers additional protection and flexibility for their critical servers, ensuring consistent backup and restore of their important enterprise information, adds Van Noordwyk.
