Seagate Software provides support for Netware 5 and Novell Storage Services
Enterprise Information Management (EIM) pioneer, Seagate Software, has confirmed its Novell "Yes, Tested and Approved" certification for Seagate Backup Exec for NetWare to coincide with the announcement of NetWare 5.
Seagate Backup Exec for NetWare provides full support for Novell NetWare 5 and Novell Storage Services.
"With the addition of Novell`s Storage Services and pure IP support in NetWare 5, it is vital that mission-critical data be backed up with the certified `Yes, Tested and Approved` solution," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager for MEA at Seagate Software, Network and Storage Management Group.
"Seagate Backup Exec provides reliable data protection even as NetWare continues to evolve. For our customers, Novell`s `Yes, Tested and Approved` certification is essential to support integration between Novell`s operating system and Seagate Backup Exec for NetWare," he says.
`It was essential that we provided a backup solution for our client base that is planning to upgrade to Netware 5. This availability is now possible through the partnership we have with Seagate Software. They are the only vendor that supplies a third-party backup solution certified for Netware 5 - one that is fully integrated with Novell`s Directory Services (NDS)," says Novell SA`s corporate strategist, Stafford Masie.
As a high-performance data protection solution, the software provides features such as Seagate Working Set Backup, barcode reader and media portal support and multi-platform centralised management. In addition, it fully supports Novell SMS, Target Service Agents and NDS.
Seagate Backup Exec for NetWare automates network backups through a scheduler providing easy unattended operation. With Seagate Software Agent Accelerator technology, performance is further improved by minimising network traffic and automating the backup of remote servers using distributed processing and source compression. Add-on modules, such as Autoloader Option, Open File Manager, IBM ADSM Option, Seagate Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option and Seagate Manage Exec, are available to enhance the NetWare storage solution.
Seagate Manage Exec, which currently supports NetWare 3.x through 4.11, is being enhanced for NetWare 5. With native IP support, Seagate Manage Exec allows customers to run the Seagate Manage Exec agent on an IP network without IPX/SPX. Seagate Manage Exec monitors Seagate Backup Exec for NetWare backup servers and performs proactive monitoring, alerting and reporting of over 200 critical NetWare 5 events.
"Due to this partnership, Seagate is able to provide solutions in its area of expertise for all the latest Novell technologies," says Masie. He goes on to say that Novell`s new file system, NSS (Novell Storage System), is presently supported only by Seagate.
