Sentech will operate at full capacity as of today, after a two-and-a-half-week strike by over 200 employees affiliated to the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) ended yesterday.
The state-owned signal provider says the parties reached a wage agreement yesterday, after Sentech agreed to give bargaining unit employees an 8% increase on basic salary for employees at lower grades, 7.5% increase on basic salary for employees at higher grades, and a monthly housing allowance of R1 450.
In addition, a bonus will be paid out to all the members of the bargaining unit on the basis of the company's performance during the 2013/2014 financial year.
"With regards to the contentious issue of the 13th cheque, the parties have agreed on a process that will result in a phased introduction of an enabling facility.
"The parties have agreed that there will be no industrial action in relation to the 13th cheque matter until at least the end of the 2015/2016 financial year. This provides sufficient time for the two parties to deal with the matter," says Sentech.
Sentech says it extends appreciation to its customers and stakeholders for the patience and understanding during this difficult period.
"The company confirms there were no specific disruptions to its normal services as a result of the industrial action.
The company continues to value its relationship with the CWU as a stakeholder and reaffirms its commitment to the improvement of conditions of employment of its employees."
