Senwes streamlines processes with an eye on the global market

Senwes, a R3,2-billion per year agriculture-oriented enterprise, has chosen to implement SAP enterprise business software throughout its operation, and so position itself as a process-driven global player with increased focus on customer relations.

"Senwes is a diverse company, with interests in a vast range of activities in sectors such as the grain industry, retail, mechanisation and agro-industries, as well as insurance and financial services," comments Stefano Mattiello, general manager: retail and consumer products at SAP Southern Africa.

"As such, they need business software to integrate systems across the entire operation and move the company towards becoming entirely process driven.

"The rationalisation and integration of systems within Senwes will enable better management of operations and processes, while empowering employees on all levels of the business to make informed decisions - information is knowledge," adds Mattiello.

Leon Hunter, Senwes IT manager, says the driving force behind selecting SAP was to fulfill the company`s goal of becoming a technologically advanced world-class player delivering not only quality products, but also top quality service to its customers.

"Senwes also required solutions to enable us to further improve efficiencies and increase profitability. A system was required to help the company and its management contain costs by streamlining all its processes," says Hunter. SAP software was ideal while the support levels and SAP SA`s existing track record gave Senwes the confidence to invest in the entire solution. Initially, the company will implement the financial accounting and controlling modules before year end, as well as link the materials management and sales & distribution modules to it legacy systems as an interim measure. Following this, the other SAP modules will be phased in.

"SAP is providing us with the solution to meet our short and long term goals and we are confident our investment in our staff will ensure these goals are met," adds Hunter.

He forecasts the company will make extensive use of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transactions in the future and says the implementation of further SAP modules will ensure seamless communication across all levels of the enterprise, as well as with customers.
