Server glitch delays EPL transfer
Tottenham Football Club's struggle to push through a last-minute £8 million deal for Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has been blamed on computer server problems, notes Global News.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp managed to tie up the deal for the 27-year-old Dutchman with the La Liga outfit just two hours before the transfer window closed at 6pm UK time.
The English Premier League are said to be investigating Tottenham's claim that the bureaucracy was held by difficulties involving computer servers used in the deal with Real.
India demands locally-based servers
The Indian government has announced all communication companies operating in the country will have to set up their computer servers within India and also allow security agencies access to the flow of data, voice and messages through their networks, reports the Tribune.
Union Home Secretary GK Pillai, who has been holding talks with telecom majors, said: “People who operate communication services in India should have a server in India and give data and communication access to law enforcement agencies.”
This has been made clear to Research In Motion, the makers of BlackBerry and to other companies operating in India, Pillai added.
Power outage disrupts library services
A power outage has affected library services throughout Otago, reports Otago Daily Times.
Dunedin City Council library services manager Bernie Hawke said the outage, in Invercargill, affected the servers which run the Symphony library computer system used by Central Otago, Queenstown-Lakes and the greater Dunedin area libraries in Dunedin and at Mosgiel, Port Chalmers, Waikouaiti, Blueskin Bay and book bus services.
"The servers that run the system are based in Invercargill and we're connected with an Internet link between Dunedin and Invercargill," he said.
