Sanlam Properties managed the largest property portfolio in South Africa. Subsequently Gensec took over the outsourced management of the Sanlam Properties portfolio. Their key areas of success lay in the detail valuation process of their properties on a monthly basis. Competitor companies were only able to run this evaluation on a quarterly basis. To achieve this the billing process was closely integrated with the valuation and accounting systems. This was achieved by integrating their custom property management system with a SAP accounting package.
The Shandon team have been involved in the design and development of Gensec's Property Management system. The functionality of this system includes keeping track of property details, leased and vacant space, and budget runs to mention a few.
Shandon has been involved in the integration of this system to SAP, Lotus Notes and Adabase. The interface to SAP is at a database level, with both applications using SQL as their database, and at an API level with VB calling SAP functionality. Lotus Notes is used for sending mail from VB and also receives data from the Property Management system for its own functionality via SQL stored procedures. Adabase is used for data warehousing and data mining, and receives its data from the Property Management system in a denormalised format.
One of the main requirements of the Gensec Property Management System was an extensive reporting module. This was developed using Crystal Reports using the SQL database as its data source
